That's interesting, how old do they have to be till you can tell by the beak?

That's a good question.. I wouldn't sex them 100% by the beak, but along with other signs it seems to be pretty accurate.

Here is the same girl I posted above at 5 weeks old or so. You can see she still has the girl shape at this age.. I'll go back further.

Can't find any images of the girl younger that you can properly see the profile of the beak, but I did find one of my boy @ 2 weeks

Do silkie hens have wattles when they are younger? I have found that all of my silkies which grew wattles around 10-12 weeks went on to become cockerells! Not sureif this is always the case and may be helpful for you to use this (once someone clever confirms as I don't know!) big_smile.png

bearded silkies (cockerels and pullets) should not have visible wattles.

But it would be helpful if we are talking about the non-bearded variety! smile.png
