Is he EVER going to get the hang of it?*PICS* (not of the deed)

I have 5 Muscovy, 1 male, 4 females they are about 5 months old.  The drake has been trying to mate for a few weeks.  "trying" is the important word here. 

I just watched him for about 5-7 minutes as he did everything but actually mate with one of the hens.  She was obviously willing as she was laying on the ground with her tail up and he was not even on her or holding on to her for most of this time.

He did his stomping around on her back then was circling around her (? never seen that before) more stomping, standing on her but not facing the same direction. 

He did FINALLY actually complete the deed. 

 

So, is my drake just very considerate of his ducks and providing foreplay hide.gif ......... lau.gif or should I consider getting a new drake?

 

The girls are not laying yet.  I just don't remember this low of a "skill" level before.  I want some stinking eggs and then some stinking ducklings!!!  he.gif

Now, now, he is just getting the hang of it!

 

Perhaps all the females have really strong personalities so he is a little intimidated with his new job.

 

I would give him more time.  I am sure they will make beautiful ducklings together.

Nine beautiful Runners, four beautiful Buffs, thousands of beautiful memories and counting.

 

Looking for ducks?  Please consider adopting rescued ducks.  There are many places and people who do rescues, but we are not allowed to post the links due to BYC regs.  So fire up your web browsers and find some sweet, grateful duckies.

Thanks Amiga.  I've been concerned because there have been MANY times where I'm telling him that's her head buddy, wrong end!

i figured I'd add some updated pics of the offender and his ladies.

 

there he is, slinking off to the side. 

 

 

And the girls.  The front one has started turning more solid in color.
