How do you keep your chickens warm in the winter?

I live in northern Maine where the winter temps can drop down into the negatives for weeks at a time...my solution this year with my dome chicken run is to wrap the run in clear house wrap plastic. It's cheep and it keeps the snow and wind mostly out (the run door it not covered so there is plenty of ventilation) and I use the deep litter method through the winter months, letting the litter get a good foot deep. This causes a composting effect to help warm the run. I do a good cleaning of the run (all the way down to the soil) then I cover the ground with hay and then with pine shavings. So far, so good! And in the coop I let the litter pile up to 6 inches before cleaning it, when it gets soiled I add a good covering of fresh shavings. I put a cookie tin warmer under the waterer which keeps the water from freezing and also puts off a bit of radiant heat for the coop.
