Thank you everyone for warm welcomes! I have a bit of a situation though - our handsome rooster is cock-a-doodle-doodling in the morning and supposedly our landlord received a complaint. Our landlord (we rent the house they own) gave us a week to get rid of Cockquiao and La Hendrix, she claimed it is illegal to own chickens. Although we know this is not true in the state of California, we do have the right to own pets, it's stated on our lease. Well the 7 days has gone long by and I just cannot get rid of them as I have grown so close to both of them. Also, our landlord has not called us to see if we have in fact removed Cockquiao and La Hendrix from the property, it's been 2 weeks now since our week deadline. We also inquired to neighbors around us to see who made the complaint so that we may talk with them, which we did not find out, but we did meet several neighbors who said that they are not bothered and one woman who actually said she loves hearing him crow in the morning!

My question is, how can we legally keep these two loves in our lives? What are the parameters for renters who seek to have chickens as pets if pets are stated to be OK on the lease? What about Roosters and the noise level?

Ok, I'd appreciate any assistance any of you may offer.

Thank you!

Vero

Hello fellow Angelino ChickensRDinos! I have a quick question for you - have you heard of a community garden(s) here in LA where you can take your chickens and let them roam around? So essentially it would be sort of like a chicken "daycare"? I am going to do a bit of research on this but wanted to ask you as well. I will also share what I find if I do find something.

Hello!

I have not heard of that but it sounds awesome. I looked around a little and so far have only found this:

It is a community garden in echo park that talks about chicken meet ups but they have not posted anything since nov 2009 so I don't know if they are still around. I will keep looking. Let me know if you find anything.
