Muscovy ducks: safer to free-range than chickens?

I was just thinking. Since adult muscovies can fly, does that make them less prone to being nabbed by predators than flightless poultry? Hmmmm.

Flight defiantly helps make them less vulnerable but like any domestic breed they don't have the same evading instincts as wild species.

Helen: Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?

In my case will make it harder, cause on the other side of the fence is my dog, and she is known to have eaten a couple of chickens who got out..... I call her Gollum hmm.png

In my area? yes... my chickens would have been long gone BUT that guarantees nothing.. i lost two drakes in the past month to something but one was to young to fly and the other guy wasn't the best at it..(mature heavier drake)

Flights always helps. That is why mine are still full flight but i am penning them in, i am fairly confident i got hit up by a dog and that presents a greater issue as my birds have been raised around dogs and have little fear. sad.png
