hi we recently started out with two chickens and yeah its turned into alot more. i know for sure we can have them in our city. however we dont exactly get along with our neighbors. and just in case animal control shows up i do know not to allow them into the backyard without a warrent. i just want to know how many we can have. ive searched high and low and found one site that says in la county you can have as many as you want as long as there 20 feet from the house. (thats taken care of.) the site also says you can have as many as you want. is this true? being nice to the neighbor is beyond our hands since there dog recently BROKE the property fence and there solution when asked politely to fix it was for us not to go into our own backyard. *rolls eyes* ignorant people. so i wanted to know how many we can have. i do not want to incriminate myself saying how many we have but i absoultly love them and am addicted. but its not a hoarder situtation. there in a clean chicken run we built. also do we need to have the city inspect the chicken run? any help will be apriciated. i already looked at the city ordinance and it says you can have poultry just not how many. thanks everyone!

I would call animal control and ask. I know that throughout LA county there is zoning and each zone is different. It varies pretty wildly depending on if your property is considered within city limits or county.

I live in the city of LA and when I called was told I was allowed 5 hens and no roosters, no permit or inspection required. I would imagine city of west covina would be more lax than LA city and if you're considered county then even more so, but it's always good to know exactly where you stand in case there is a conflict.

You can also ask if there is any way to get a permit for more. I know it works that way for dogs at least (getting a breeder or kennel license). If you can then I would image that would require inspections and cost money.

Good afternoon,

Did you find out how many hens does West Covina allow to have?

Thank you,
Geremias

dont trust animal control if you call and ask they lie. i called city hall they said 25 but she said they pretty much dont care as long as they dont smell. they do have ot be 20 feet from your neighbors. no roosters allowed. but however i have a rooster and if animal control every shows up im going to tell them to go f*** themselves. they couldnt show up about our neighbors aggressive dog yet they'll bug me about a harmless rooster. animal control has seem my chickens when one lady was out about an incident we had in a dog park. i asked her she too said as long as you dont have a crap load and they dont stink your fine. so just take good care of them and you can pretty much have as many as you want. especially if you bribe your neighbors with eggs. i have about 30 and my neighbor two doors down had no clue i had any.

Hello,

That is nice to know, I have about 36 right now, I live in LA and I am unsure if I want to move to West Covina, La Puente or El Monte (I know these cities allow them too). I do not understand how an innocent animal can disturb some people. I have giant jersey, naked neck, and 2 or 3 more species. I have about 11 roosters and they will be in my table this thanksgiving and Christmas.

Thank you for the above info,
Geremias
