Converting Coop Area from Pine Shavings to Sand, Suggestions wanted!

Im in Wisconsin and new to chickens - my coop is in the process of being built so I dont have chickens yet. If I did sand in my coop and bedding or straw in the nesting boxes will my chicken stay warm enough in the winter?
They should as long as you weather proof the coop and give them roost to sleep where they're off the ground. Make sure there is no draft and have a heater for their water so it doesn't freeze over as long as u get a hearty breed you will be fine

Also shavings will stay moist longer causing it to stick to feet and more health issues if not constantly cared for
