all my eggs are pretty dark, even my gree eggs are darker. I used flash on this picture and you can see how pretty an d dark this egg is. She came from this bird... who we did not know what was until I asked and some said sex link, some said copper Maran.. we are thrilled as she is a wonderful bird, sweet and gentle. and now we get these eggs. the back dark egg is also hers from a few days previous. its dark to but with flash it looks pretty light. I was shocked to get this beautiful egg today !

Karlamaria, your chicken is Black Copper Marans. She has copper color on her neck and big comb and wattles. I don't see feathers on her legs on the picture, so she is probably English Black Copper Marans, not French, because French Marans have feathered legs. The color of the eggs will vary from day to day, it wont be always that dark like the one in the middle, but if you get a lot of dark eggs like that through out her life you got a true Marans. Some people say that Black and Black Copper Marans lay the darkest eggs out of all Marans.

5 French Blue Copper Marans, 2 Yokohamas, 3 Blue Silkies, 1 White Silkie, 1 Silkie "mutt", 2 Self-Blue Belgian d'Uccle, 1 Mille Fleur Bantam Cochin, 1 Black White Crested Polish, 1 Delaware, 1 LF Blue Ameraucana, 1 Bantam White Ameraucana, 1 Light Brahma....hmmm, do I have enough?

Thought you might find this club site, for Marans interesting.  Lots of photos of eggs, and judging the darkness of the color, etc.
