I have a duck I believe has Aspergillosis. Can I give him tea tree oil internally?

My sweet puppy, Maggie (1yo), 3 adorable baby pet rats, Darby, Lilah, and Faye, 3 cats, 2 bunnies, a goldfish named Ghoti (pronounced "Fish"), 1 Khaki Campbell duckling, 1 Magpie duckling, and lots and lots of chickens!

That's okay. She's fading quickly. I don't think it would have helped anyways. She'll probably be gone before the day is out. :(

ETA: I said "him" in the first post. It's a duckling. I believe it's a girl, but I'm not sure.

I am sorry she's is not doing well.hugs.gif Is there anything else you could give her?

Also I forgot to mention that you might want to search the posts here on Oxine AH. I have never used it but I have heard very good things about Oxine AH for aspergillosis. I keep planning on getting some myself to have on hand. The only precaution I have read is not to use the activator (citric acid as I recall). Anyway if you do have aspergillosis it might be worth looking into encase other birds get hit with the mold spores.

I don't think so. She is the second one to show these symptoms. I think it's a secondary infection caused from a birth defect. The first (who unfortunately died yesterday) one had a very tiny, shriveled heart and nodules all over her lungs and intestines. These 2 ducklings both have/had tiny undeveloped wings, and have not grown as well as their siblings. It's something congenital. I'm guessing their hearts are too small to sustain their growing body, which would also weaken their immune system and make them more susceptible to secondary infections like Aspergillosis. :\ The other ducklings have nice, full wings, growing like weeds and are very active. When this one passes (or gets culled, whichever happens first) we'll open her up and see if she has a small heart, too. It's very sad. I probably sound heartless, but honestly I cried enough yesterday I have to kinda distance myself and think of her as just an animal as opposed to my baby duck. I really do love and care about my animals, even if it sounds like I'm letting them die and cutting them open. I hope I don't sound that way.

It sounds like your doing your best. Things happen and sometimes its birth defects. There are so many things that can go wrong. I have ducklings at the moment and one died during hatching. hit.gif I have no idea what happened but everyone else hatched out healthy the next day. It looked fine but obviously something wasn't right. Your at least trying to figure it out and do what you can. As far as the autopsy goes I think your brave and I hope it gives you more clues for the future. I am glad your other ducklings are doing well, and it really does sound like you love your animals so don't worry.
