Question:  has anyone ever left a couple rows on the turner to turn while taking the others racks out and placing the lockdown eggs on the grate?  Is this just too dangerous for the chicks hatching out?

I'm thinking my son-in-law is going to buy another incubator today but just in case not, I'm not sure how to handle the two later eggs.  At this point, I think maybe, I see veining.  Hard to tell because they are blue.

I have to agree with Roxanne. Leaving the turner in could injure the other chicks. When you up the humidity for lock down you risk the two eggs getting too much moisture and then drowning. I would definitely try to find another incubator to put them in.

When a chick externally pips you will see a little piece of shell broken away. Sometimes it's just a flap and other times the piece actually falls off the egg. It almost looks like a little "x."

I still have 2 weeks! When I first found out it only took 21 days for a chick to develop in an egg, I thought "wow, that is pretty fast" . Lol, now I don't think it is fast enough!yippiechickie.gif

Just  candled   my  own eggs.

Shipped in heat and i had  the humidity  60 the first 2 days whooops!!!  then let it get to 22 more than once  Whatever ...i only see 3 that look pretty good The rest of 18...Look bad. WAy too little inside to be  so near day 18 which is tuesday BUT maybe i will get a couple chicks i hope .My last hatch for the year.Too cold here to have more now.BOO I'll miss everyone until Feb or March...Start again...

Hoping you get more than 3. I just put my 6 week old chicks outside today in their new run. Haven't finished the coop yet so I put a tarp over one half of the run and pallets around the outside for added protection. I am a nervous wreck. They were getting too big for the brooder and had to get outside. Supposed to stay in the 70's tonight so at least it won't be too cold for them.

I found the people I bought my last set of eggs from on ebay. I saw they were from Florida and looked up the town on Mapquest and they were only an hour away. Wonderful people and very fertile eggs. Candled my Silkie eggs last night and I still have 12 chicks growing out of 12 eggs. The WellSummer  has veining and movement and I could only see through a few of the Marans eggs and all the ones I looked at were moving around and I could see veining also.

Hey Brook. I would love their details to see what they have - could you PM their contact details? I could do a local pickup - yay!! I just found some super people local to me on the Florida thread who have laying Delawares - yay, been looking for them for ages! Things sounding good in your bator. And that's with shipped eggs hey?

Wife of "The Sweet', - Mom of 5 (children) and a growing number of chickens (around 30'ish) - 2 horses, 2 goats, 2 pigs, 2 dogs, 2 cats on 10 acres of Florida yumminess!!
