"I cannot." She started washing Chantelle's arm. "When a mare is ordered to do something around here, she does it."
"Well I order you to stop." Chantelle pushed the rag away.
"That means nothing here." She persisted.
"That's enough nag." Valdan waved at her. He placed a hand on Chantelle's shoulder. "Father commands your presence." He sighed then walked away.
"I didn't catch your name last night?" Chantelle inquired.
"Valdan." He stopped. He realized she wasn't moving, then he grunted and turned back to help her up. "You need to walk today, you were unconscious for weeks."
"No one told me that much." She stiffly got up as he pulled her.
"Yeah well 'dear ole dad' isn't good with words." He gave her a smart look then continued. "You get to show off today."
"How is that?" She forced herself to move.
"You'll see." He shook his head in irritation. "And quit talking so much, you might tick someone off."
"Do I tick you off?" She raised a brow.
"No." He rolled his eyes. "Just stay quiet unless you are inside." He looked back at her shaking his head as if she were being stupid.
"There's my pretty girl." Barabas smiled. It looked like almost the entire branch of the tribe were there.
Valdan led her up onto a platform and she could see a massive crowd of Memeruk. Valdan then walked back off and took a seat on the hillside behind the platform. He wasn't really watching either. Towards the front of the line were many massive and heavily armed Memeruk.
"Bring out the prisoners." Barabus sneered and raised his hands.
Most of the crowd cheered, though a few stood silent. Some of the mares looked like they wanted to run and Chantelle was starting to feel the same way. The crowd parted and two smaller Centaur stallions were brought out. Chantelle figured they were Centaurian. Then they brought out a single Terrellian male. All three were heavily bound and had collars on them.
The Terrellian looked like they had beaten him to a pulp. He looked up at her and muttered "Sutra." Then a guard yanked him to the ground.
She felt her heart leap for the poor creature and for the first time something familiar hit her when he said what he did. She glanced back at Valdan he was still ignoring what was going on. Barabas was to full of himself to notice his son.
"My mare is going to sing a lovely song to the prisoners before they confess their evil against us." Barabas fingered a talisman around his neck. He moved his finger a certain pattern then he looked at her and commanded. "Sing to the prisoners."
She was not sure what was going on but she looked at the three bloody prisoners before her and started singing a lament. She did not know how she knew the words but they came out nonetheless. The guards released their grip on the three and they walked towards her as if mesmerized by some spell. Then the Memeruk guards started laughing and jeering at them. Chantelle stopped upon this and glared at Bababas.
"Do you confess that you murdered Memeruk mares and children in cold blood?" He questioned the prisoners.
All three confessed at the exact same time. "We are guilty as charged."
Barabas smiled with wicked satisfaction. "Penalty is death!" He waved a hand and the guards beheaded the prisoners without hesitation.
The crowd shouted and cheered. Chantelle saw a few mares cover their eyes and cry. She glanced back were Valdan had been and he was gone. She felt her heart race and she wanted to scream. This felt so wrong, but she could not figure out what to do. It was like Barabas had control over her. She watched the horror before her as they carried the bodies away like conquered trophys.
