I have been frustrated by my inability to see anything when trying to candle the eggs, and have tried different lights and methods. Now the eggs are at about 12 days.

Yesterday I got a new, brighter flashlight and tried to candle one of the eggs and . . . . dropped the egg. I was standing up and impatient to see something. Well, I saw it. Poor, poor wee chick-to-be. Please be careful and sit down and take your time when candling. I feel so awful.

I HEAR ya!!! always so excited and those clean dry hands make for a perfectly smooth surface to slip from!! Plus my left hand has some feeling loss since a neck injury so I am always thinking!! uggggg sorry to hear it!!! Gonna move the garage stool there right now!

I was thinking this as I re-read my initial plan!! This is why I asked actually!!  his air cell looks PERFECT and stable~ !!

Humidity, its raining again so the next few days should be perfect and simple to keep, and the issue has been too high the first few days so perfect timing for more rain!!!

Staggered hatch ~ I wont turn during lockdown so this guy is priority esp since I dont think those BCMxcomet eggs are any good but will know better tomorrow after I candle in the morning.  Thoughts???????

You seen I basically did the dry as it was so humid alone! I guess it all depends on your area and weather.  How many did you order? how far are they travelin from? I have a mind to buy more shipped eggs just to see if it always ends up this way.  I think I can rig something, I will share but it would only work with a syro as I will need another small hole... I will post a pic.  I am glad you did the stagger and it went ok....  so many factor in the process how in the world do you pin down exactly what went wrong?

With my last hatching I did a staggered hatch and I didn't turn during lockdown of the 1st set of eggs.  I don't know for sure but I think that lockdown is more important than a couple days of turning unless you have some way to turn without disrupting lockdown.

I am thinking about slapping together another pallet coop and this time shoving straw all in the walls for insulation so I can keep youngins in, un beknownst to hubby!! Its the roofing that gets me everytime!! that stuff costs a fortune : (  I wish I could find some wire spools or even an old big satelite dish to make into a roof!! I keep lookin on CL but notta!
