My older sister is the historian of the newer generation in our family. Our aunts really did all the research and we have really great records they passed down. She started researching my mother's side of the family and found out that our great,great, great grandfather was a midget in a traveling circus and married an indian woman. She couldn't find any other info after that. It's amazing the things you discover about your family.

I'm not sure what this says about that branch of the family...too many people with the same last name?  Unimaginative at looking for a mate?  Wanted a girl just like mom, right down to exactly the same name?  I'm just surprised that non of them seem to have three eyes.

 

With the Scandanavian names, you might want to keep in mind that first sons were named for their paternal grandfathers, and then took their father's first name for a last names....Anders Jansen's first born son would be Jan Anderson, and his firstborn grandson would be again Anders Jansen.   Same names, offset by one generation.

My mother is one of 8 4 boys 4 girls 3 of her brothers married women with the same first name as her (one of them even shared the same middle name) before she got married. So there where 4 women with the same first and last name in her family, one brother divorced and married a woman with my mom's twin sisters first name. My mom married and had 2 nephews with the same first name as my father (her husband) one married a woman with her first name so there where 2 couples with the same first names (different last names) the nephew finally divorced then and my brother decided to marry a woman with the same first name as mom. so there is still 4 women in the family with the same first name. one of my mom's brother's kids had a family get together and his aunt (who I never met before on his moms side) asks where (popular name) is? I asked which one? she shouted my sister that's who! and stomps off I turned to other uncle's wife and asked, with 4 of your with that first name how am I supposed to know who she is talking about? she said she couldn't figure that out either.

My uncle, Wm H Carlson (b. 1942), his father (my grandfather) was Wm H Carlson (1917), then his father was also Wm H Carlson (1870) and his father, emigrated from Sweden, was also Wm H Carlson but something tells me that his name could have been Wilhelm H Karlsson or something related. Not sure if Sweden and Denmark are the same thing to the people who were writing the documents down.

 

That was the frustrating part. With eight silbings, how can one missed it a mile away? The Wm H Carlson (1870) was the most problematic ancestor I've had!

 

In Sweden, the chances are good, but not guaranteed, that William Carlson's father's first name was Carl and his last name was "fathers-first-name"son.  His sister might be named Anna Carlsdotter. The Scandinavians have really good birth, baptism, marriage and death records archived in their churches because it was a state religion then.  Now you just have to know where they came from.

My great great great thats right 3 greats grandmothers name was Sabra Aldrich born 8-16-1795 died 6-14-1887  any relation?

This is what I have for my Aldrich family:  Starting with Sabra's father then his father and so forth; Gardner Aldrich 4-17-1768/5-28-1853  Sylvanus{Syranus} 4-21-1722/10-6-1773, Peter 1683/5-27-1762, Samuel 11-1661 4-2-1747, Joseph 6-4-1635/4-24-1701, George was the immigrant born abt 1600  death 1682 came to America in Nov 1631 probably on the ship Lyon Was amoung the seven proprietor families of Mendon Mass he was a tailor by trade.  Ancestor of Nelson "Aldrich" Rockefeller.  Sabra had married Jesse Taft.  My mother is a Taft.

Hey cousin I just connected the George!  Same here Mine married Katherine Seald also.   Yeah    I had read yours again to notice the George after I wrote mine....been along day, I'm not going to blame it on my age!
