Hi! I'm new here to BackYard Chickens. I have been around animals my entire life but three years ago my daughter found 4-H and the world of raising and showing animals and our lives changed forever.  She won Grand Champion Market Lamb Exhibitor   and Reserve Champion Rabbit Exhibitor as well as many other prizes and awards and she was hooked.  Last year she added poultry to her list of animals and she joined the FFA.  This spring we purchased many ducklings from various sources as well as a couple of rescued Pekins.  Now she has over 30 rare breed ducks, chickens and quail and we have all learned so much. This year my two sons are also trying their hands at the Market Poultry competition for our local fair.  So that is my story so far.

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?

Hi and welcome-byc.gif from Ohio. So glad to have you aboard. 4-H is a great organization. My girls were the same way, started showing market lambs, did turkeys, chickens (both meat and fancy, bantams and standards), ducks and dogs. They made a good profit on all their market animals at the fairs auction. Tell your daughter congrats and enjoy. thumbsup.gif
