Please learn from our mistake - Raccoon Killed our chicken

I am out in the country next to a creek so predators are thick here. From bear, bobcat, coyote, coons, skunks anr just about every bird of prey. We only let the chickens out when we are watching. Skunks get shot then burried deep. Racoons generally get relocated far away. But first tagged so i know if they come back. If they get caught again then they get dispatched.

Peanut butter in a box trap works for me. I have caught four raccoons in the last five days with two traps. They got one of my 7 week old chicks a few nights ago. They climb a five foot woven wire 2x2 fence with four rounds of barbed wire up to 8 feet. I do have a fenced and covered run with a locking coop but had not been locking the coop or run door. I just introduced the 7 week old rooster two days ago as a relo from a friend in town. Prior to that they had not bothered the full size larger rooster and hens. Everyone gets locked up now and food secured to deter them.
