Help with Names

Thread Starter

Hello Everyone!  Well they finally arrived today -- our eight baby chicks -- and they are adorable.  We got 2 Red Stars (buff chicks), 2 Delawares (yellow chicks), 2 Easter Eggers (brown chicks) and 2 Welsummers (brown with stripes).  Need your help though.  I am looking for some name suggestions for these little ones.  Would love names that play off chick, chicken, hen, etc. or names of famous chickens (ie Henny Penny).  Post your suggestions.  Thanks for your help!

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan big_smile.png

Home of the world's cutest dachshund, one crazy blue heeler, two cats,
one fat pony, and many (but not too many!) chickens

Can anyone tell me, how many are too many chickens?

Hey, Bcook0315....congrats on the new chicks.  I'm terrible with names as well.  I try to match a name with their personality but that doesn't always work. You should go up to the big search bar above and type "chicken names."  Lots of threads have been devoted to that topic over the years and you might see some names that catch your fancy.  Best of luck to you!!  wee.gif

I waited until mine were older before I managed to name them, and they got named based on breed or personality, though more on breed/colour.  Eg. Silkie=Mr Foofy. Japanese Bantam=Nihon and Nippon (both words that mean "Japan"). Jungle Fowl=Tarzan and Jane, etc. lol.png But everybody uses different methods. Have fun with it! And welcome to BYC!

If you want to play off names that edge toward chick, chicken, hen, etc, why not look up chick, chicken, hen, and/or rooster in different languages? Sometimes you get some fun names that way.

For instance...chick, chicken, hen, rooster translated into German is Küken, Huhn, Henne, Hahn. Just a suggestion. ^^

[The King and His Queens]
Tarzan, Jane and Penny
[The Teens]
Mr Foofy, Nihon, Nippon, London, and Oxford
[The Tweens and Babies]
Brooster, Mini, Ebony, Obsidian
[The Beauties]
Sebastian, 1 Splash Rosecomb Rooster, 3 Splash Rosecomb Hens
