Why do we love chickens so much?

Why wouldn't we love chickens! :D
I know so many people that dislike them, think they aren't intelligent. How do I know? Because I was one of those people! I learned not to judge an animal til you know them. Chickens have huge personalities and are there for you when you need it! Others may think I'm crazy but I can spend hours watching my chickens and NOT getting bored. Chickens understand what your feeling and are there for you when people arent. You can't always trust people, but you can always trust your chickens!

I suppose there are those that are mean, but wonder if it is the individual or that people haven't taken the time to work with the rooster.

We hand reared one and as soon as the hens hatched a chick he lost his blooming mind! We had him housebroke and he would come whenever we called him for his treats. But as soon as there were chicks in the yard, he started pecking holes in people, spurring them and attacking anything and everything that moved.
 
My next door neighbors, who sit out on their deck a lot, tell me they love hearing the rooster, When they have their two small grandchildren for a couple days, the kids also love and mimic the rooster crows. Another neighbor tells me that it makes her think of living out in the country again. I've heard him so often I rarely even notice the crowing but enjoy it when I do stop to listen - just give your neighbors some eggs occasionally and I'll bet they will never complain re the crowing. Why do we love chickens?

Because chickens don't kill other birds like cats, they don't jump up and bite like some dogs, they don't jump around quietly like rabbits, they simply just:

•follow you
•come when theyre called
•scratch around your feet
•talk back to you when you book
•let you pick them up
•let you pat them
•compost food scraps and plant matter for you
•supply you with manure
•lay eggs (if theyre hens)
•get rid of bugs
...and so the list goes on!

Chickens make as good a pet as a dog,cat, rabbit, other species of bird and even a mouse. Sometimes maybe even better.

They also have better eye sight than us humans, but do we get jealous? Ofcourse not, because we love their every move, their look and ofcourse their companionship!
 
Im younger and still being raised by my parents but I have seven chickens and when I'm done with school every day I go outside and let my chickens out! I let them eat from my hand and some stand on my knee I love them so much especially when they make me laugh!
