Upon arrival, I first transferred them one by one into a different box, makin' sure each drank a bit of water (which had cooled since heating to better dissolve the sugar and dash of salt that I'd added). Thought they'd stay in this short-sided cardboard tray for a day or two, before beginning to clean through the layers beneath ...

... as you can see? One immediately responded to my hand (or, it's possible addiction to sugar). I love how the others seemed to look briefly to one another, as if they questioned the first's intelligence, just to realize that they were dumb enough to blindly follow her.

Raisin' chicks is entirely too much fun to cost so little ~'-)

I've a similar video that captures them tryin' to figure out the actual waterer I replaced these tiny ones with; will post it later ...

Almost forgot, which isn't good reason not to do as I said I would.
This one's a bit longer, and more boring, than the last ...

... but, the waterer hasn't been visibly dirty once -- although I still clean it very often, 'cause they're stickin' their beaks in a common area. The best size/shape for the access holes appears to be about that of an ordinary table spoon. The holes in the reservoir must be large enough to overcome the surface tension of water -- notice the smaller holes? They weren't ... didn't even leak, unless touched, which would be yet another way to water fowl.

But, the fun part: Watch how quickly they learn from one another's individual experimentation. And, what would otherwise appear to be pointlessly peckin' around. When I tap something? Several come runnin' quick as mice, and can easily hop the five inches req'd to land on top of the feeder. Very cool.

There were actually several laggin' behind, with the last bein' too weak; all appear to be happy 'n healthy now.

As to the breeds, or even which variation of brown you refer to? I'm only guessin' at this point, and I'm too blind to do that very well. But, I'd sure welcome you 'n others to help me figure it out. Here's a page that has a bunch of Murray McMurray videos of different breeds of chicks: --> PECK HERE <-- to open it in a new window.
