I was at Lowes the other day, and they have HUGe pumpkin holding 6 and 8 sided boxes. BEG the garden department manager to hold one for you. I did, and I am so excited to use it for my next batch of girls. They are the perfect size for a big brooder. The sides are just high enough for them not to fly out of, but for you to bend down into. Even if you used it for two months, the cardboard is heavy duty you can put that plastic chicken netting they sell now at the hardware stores over the top. I just finally put my 10 week olds in their coop and run. I wish I had it 10 weeks ago!I have 18 chicks coming next week and I am still deciding which brooder to use. Some Bantams some not. I'm not sure how much space they will need. This will be only my second time getting chicks, the first time I only had 6 so I'm wondering........ Thank you for your help

I think I will go by there today and like you said, beg them to save me one. I have a small brooder that I could use when they first get here I guess until I can get the BIG BOX or something larger. THANKS!!!
Oh man, you are so welcome! Funny you thought the same thing! Our lives are now looking at everything thinking all the time...."oh, my chickens would love that!" lol. Let me know if you were able to score one. The garden manager acted like I was asking for plans from the building a new wing on the Pentagon, but he did tell me his grandmother raised chickens, so I think I got llucky. He told me to not tell anyone, and here I am announcing it the world of BYC!Thank you so much for the advice! I DO have a coop ready for them but I know I will be keeping them in the brooder til fully feathered. Actually the Pumpkin boxes at Lowes......I saw them and thought EXACTLY THAT!
