This BYC contest is brought to you by our sponsors.
Please visit them and thank them for their support of BYC

We've been meaning to do this for a LONG time, and a thanks to many members for pushing us to finally get it done! We know there are a TON of great threads on waterers and feeders on BYC just waiting to be indexed into a great organized and ordered system!

Get those digital cameras out and scan those waterer / feeder plans you wrote on the back of your chick starter receipt. Throw them together with a great write up and you could be a winner! (okay... everyone on BYC is a winner... you'd just be a waterer / feeder page contest winner!)

Contest Details:

This is a contest to see who can create the "best" waterer / feeder page for BYC. The winner of the contest will get a $20 Gift Certificate for the BYC Store!

Here is what could be included in your page:
  1. A write up of how you built your waterer / feeder along with any information you think would be helpful to other people who may want to build a similar units.
  2. Any designs / plans you used to build your waterer / feeder.
  3. Pictures of your waterer / feeder as it was being constructed.
  4. Finished pictures of your waterer / feeder.

  6. A parts list with prices

If you want your page to win, make sure it has as many of the elements above in as much detail as possible! Here are some additional hints to help you win the contest:
  1. Follow the format of some of the existing waterer/feeder pages.
  2. The more details and pictures the better!
  3. Pictures - We all love lots of pictures!

ALL pictures MUST be uploaded to BYC

If you have questions about the contest reply to this post.

We expect to add all of the pages submitted to the new homemade chicken waterer / feeder section but the best will win the contest.

TO ENTER THE CONTEST:

1) Create a cool page
2) Reply to this thread with a link to your waterer / feeder page on BYC!
3) Have Fun!

NOTES:

If you're one of those modest types and want to add your waterer / feeder to the site but don't want to enter the contest, that is fine. Please still add a link to your page in this thread... the more designs the better the community will be!
We want all types of waterers & feeders. Small, big, simple, complex, wood, plastic, etc. Everyone has different budgets, time, and use cases, so we want to capture them all!

If you can't / aren't inclined to create a page but have lots of good pictures and a write up of your design, please email them to [email protected] and we can build a page for you.

There is NO set end date for this contest. It will be determined by how many and how quickly we receive submissions.

If we get a lot of submissions there may even be prizes for 2nd and 3rd place! So get buildin'!!!!

I love that stuff, great job!!!

For the contest we need the info to be placed into a "page" here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops

Look to the left for the button that says "Add a Coop Design" (for now all the waterers, brooders, etc. are going in there).

The good news is that you can just select all the text and images and then paste them into a new page.

Heck, as a test I went ahead and did it for ya! Here you go:

(feel free to edit that page however / whenever you want. Once we finalize the contest we'll add it to the waterer / feeder index here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/homemade-chicken-feeder-waterer-designs-pictures )

Nifty,

I'm a bit confused. I thought I created my waterer page the right way, with the Add a Coop Design, and it's in the general listing under coops, but isn't on the waterer/feeder page.

Is my page in the right page? You mention in the last sentence that at the end of the contest you'll move it to the waterer/feeder page, so perhaps I don't have to do anything further?

TIA

Great question. The same process applies to these submissions as it does to the coop pages, it's a manual process. In the BYC FAQ's:

Q: How Do I Get My Coop Page Added to the BYC Coop Index?
A:
All the coops submitted to our coop contests are added to the various coop indexes AFTER the contest is over. Please look at the top of our coop section for a link to the current coop contest and submit your coop there.

So, in this case, all the newly submitted pages are added after the contest is over.

Since the waterer/feeder, brooder, incubator contests usually go longer and have fewer submissions we have been discussing a way to add them to the index before the contests are over.

Thanks a bunch. :) :) :)

I tried adding to it, but the pix will not show up. :(

Ahh... looks like you were adding comments like in a thread, but articles are different. Go to the top of the page and click "Edit" and you should be able to edit that page to add pictures to it.
