What is the BEST Broody Hen ? ? ?

Funny that this thread has come up again. When I first posted here back in '08 I was a new chicken mama with young hens who had never gone broody. Well, that certainly has changed! I've had broody hens for the last 2 summers, both standards and bantams, and I have to say that, while I don't know if they're the BEST broody hens, the most persistent of my girls are my two Mille Fleur d'Uccles. Broody, broody, broody, stubborn broody those two are... they go broody in spring and stay that way until winter! And I don't dare try to deny them eggs, because my two started escaping the coop/run and hiding their eggs UNDER the coop when I pulled that stunt on them. But I must say, as much as their broodiness aggravates me, they do make fabulous little mamas.

the best broody i ever had was a bantam cornish named sugar. sweetest girl ever and even with eggs and babies i never had to worry about her pecking me

her daughter (cornish/ cochin X) is great too, but she doesn't quite understand what to do when the 'kids' get older. they are ten weeks and she's laying again, but she's also still taking care of the chicks!

I had dark cornish LF that I could never break of being broody. I finally rehomed them on craig's list. They were happy with them even though I warned them they were broody as they could be.

Pretty much any female that is in my flock....my flock has broodyitis.
But of all of them Blueberry is the broodiest! And she is a Silkie.
