Production Reds

Pretty dang big for 8 weeks. I've had 3 Rhode Island Reds so far, only 2 came as chicks. Looks like a RIR cross to me. A RIR & a Prod. Red when they were about 13 weeks old, give or take a week... I think. (My memory is getting about as short as I am Tall)

Check my past posted Pic, date taken, originally posted should be there......

My first Backyard adventure has been with production reds and black $’X-link.
A couple of the reds and one black will get fussy when on the nest. I have actually taken to petting them around the comb and down the neck and back, without reaching under for the eggs. They have become trusting to the point of sleeping during the process and now allow me free movement about the coop without getting flighty or attempting to peck.
I must add that my rooster is a very gentle little fellow that will eat out of my hand. Perhaps his temperament has an effect on the hens.
I do spoil them with dried mealworms as a treat and to call them back to the coop when I wish to leave the property with them safely within the coop.
The egg production is excellent quality, quantity, size and flavor.
The offspring is a barnyard mix that has been equally hearty.
Best of luck.
