I cheated when needing to add nest box space to my coop and I intend on getting more when it gets nice to add to the run. Very easy to clean and totally portable, and best of all very cheap! LOL Just screwed them to the side of the coop to keep them from tipping over and put a top on them to keep anything from above from falling into the top box. You can see my built in nest box behind this one, and now they don't even use that one. LOL They came in a three pack for $12, and I couldn't make nest boxes for that price.

Does this design still work for you? We are building a new coop and will have a pop out nesting box. Our current chickens like to roost on anything and will roost on the front of their current boxes in poop where they lay. this would be a great option to keep the eggs clean. Just wondering how it works after all this time.
