Does male quail "crow"

I've read on the forums that male coturnix do crow from early morning and onwards.  I think their crows are loud but not as loud as a rooster's crow.  My male quails crow too (they are not coturnix) but mostly (99% of the time) in the spring time.

I only have buttons, which are about half the size of Coturnix, but all of my quail make noise that is loud enough to be heard by my neighbors. The females flock call and make territorial sounds, and the male crows.
It's not a piercing cry, though. It's short and sounds like a "wild" bird call and though it is loud enough to hear from a distance it's no louder than, say, a mockingbird or a starling. They're definitely quieter than a barky dog.
 

One of my neighbors asked me what kind of birds she had heard in my yard, and i told her about my quail and asked if they were too loud. She said that the only reason she asked was that it was a bird call she wasn't familiar with and they were neither too loud nor unpleasant.

Check Youtube for videos of coturnix quail calling and you should be able to get a pretty good idea of how loud they are and whether or not your neighbors might take issue. You could also start small with just a single male and i doubt any neighbors would even notice let alone complain.

 I have coturnix. My males crow. It's a pretty sounding crow if that helps.
 

Some quails do crow a lot so you have to select and keep the quiet one.

Yes, they do crow, but my male only crows when he's separated from his female friends. Heh, my neighbor told me he didn't even realize we had had them until he was on his garage roof cutting down trees and saw me handling my coturnix quails.

They're crow can be quite loud, but it only lasts for a few seconds, and will only do it once or twice (but are capable of doing it several times over), depending on why they're crowing;

Being it calling for a mate, calling for friends or just crowing for the fun of it.

Though the crow is much louder close up, I doubt your neighbor's would hear it unless they're around your/their fence.

Mine have never crowed early in the morning or at night, and most of the time my male just honks and chirps.

You don't indicate which kind of quail you are thinking about raising.  I have Bobwhites and my male crows pretty loud.  But, you can search youtube for "coturnix quail crowing" or "bobwhite quail crowing" and you will get an idea.  I think Coturnix quail are quieter than bobwhites, but I am only judging that based on youtube videos.  I do not have Coturnix and I have never seen any in person.  I have four Bobwhites inside my house, and they wake me up in the morning.  If they were outside, they would definitely be loud enough for my neighbors to notice, which is one reason they are inside!  But, I understand most municipalities do not have rules against keeping quail, so legally you should be allowed to have them unless your homeowner's association bans quail or all animals specifically you should be able to have Coturnix.  Our neighborhood association bans all animals kept in cages outside.  Can't even have a dog house.  Be careful if you decided to do Bobwhites, their call is a higher pitch and potentially more irritating to neighbors, although I love the sounds my Bobwhites make!

I was thinking along the same lines regarding the species of quail but I assumed Keforce meant coturnix.  Anyway, bobwhites have been through lots of selective breeding to get the jumbos, snowflakes, and other sorts.  Have you ever tried your hands on the wild bobwhites and find out if they differ (regarding whether they're just as vocal or more quiet)?  I'm quite curious if there are any differences.

I only have my four Bobwhites that our homeschool advisor mailed to us without asking me.  We hatched them thinking we were going to find a home for them, but there was no where they could go, all outlets refused.  So we kept them, but very happily as we love them!

I really only know what I have been told here and what I can find on Youtube and Internet sites.  My experience over the last six months has only shown me what my birds are like unfortunately.  But, I can say they are loud, but it is not like having a chicken rooster in my house for sure.  I want more Bobwhites, but we will have to wait until we move to a place where they can be outside.  I don't like them being in a guinea pig cage, but it is our only choice right now.  I would like to hatch a few of our eggs though, and have just four more so we can have more eggs!  I love bobwhite eggs!  They are way better than the coturnix eggs from our Asian store, but that may be because they are commercially grown Coturnix eggs.
