i think mine and all my eggs need to be locked in a safe honestly. kid proof safe... least the eggs they got this time weren't half way incubated. Blah. So when i was bringing everyone in tonight from their evening roaming, of course my jerk black jersey giant roo got in and started some trouble... the bbb tom took care of his shinanigins real fast. So I tossed him back out. (btw he gets no shelter he cant find himself, no heat nothing. he roosts on top of the run at night and big surprise everyone has the sniffles and sneezes but him) Couldnt for the rife of me get my one gold sexlink hen to come in. guess the roos got a friend now lol

that would be great except there is only one closet in my whole house and it's packed full of stuff; also no plug in close enough to it. I do have the 'bator wrapped in towels to help, because I happen to live in a drafty old house. I do think I'm going to look for a cardboard box to set it down inside of tho, to help keep more drafts off it. Also realized that it may have been the positioning of the thermometer....

MarineCorps: chicken drama at its bst!

My broody Silkie hopped off her eggs yesterday while I was collecting. I sent the 13 yr old out to check the other broody and make sure Silkie was back on her eggs, then left for work, this morning, same eggs in the egg bowl. Either no one else laid, or the teen didn't check....at 39 degrees out, he BETTER have checked!

Ok I have an update on my Serama eggs. 9 out of 12 are going strong, I can see eyeballs and slight movement, I tossed the 3 with blood rings. One little blue bantam Faverolles chick hopped out of the brooder next to the incubator and ran over to see what I was doing. I wonder if he remembers being inside an egg. Time to put a lid on the brooder, they are big enough to go in the grower run, but the weather has been crazy with the hurricane coming by that I wanted to keep them inside a bit longer.

Where did you get your Serama eggs from? I bought 4 sets of Serama eggs from 4 different people. My first set started hatching yesterday and so far I have 4/10. My next set was majorly scrambled during shipping and I am down to 6/17 that are in lockdown now. My 3rd set isn't due to hatch until the 7th but we have 11/15 at day 10. My 4th set is being set today.

Eggs in the Bator: Chocolate, Crele, and Lav. Orps, CCL, Khaki Campbell, Silver Appleyard, Bourbon Reds,Midget Whites, Asst. Guineas & Jumbo quail.

I have 3 baby birds from McCallums right now, I had a lower hatch rate on those, but the eggs were shipped a lot further too and I have learned that Serama eggs don't do very well with shipping at all, it doesn't matter how well they are packed up. I had ordered Faverolles from McCallums in the past and always had decent hatch results.

This batch I am incubating now is from Fluffy Bottoms Farm in GA. It's only 5 hours from here, so they didn't have to be shipped very far. They are NPIP, have amazing looking little birds and actually have an egg give away right now. I really just wanted to stick to Faverolles, but totally fell in love with these little guys, they are so adorable.love.gif

The same happened to me. My daughter and I saw these little guys and had to have them. I have to laugh because I entered the contest to win the eggs from Fluffy Bottoms. Just went and checked and my one of the eggs in my second set in lockdown has pipped.
