Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Thanks @rosemarythyme. Nice to know it's just personality. I do think the set up has something to do with it because I can't physically get into that portion of the coop. I can walk into the rest of it, but that area is smaller and more compact, but still lots of room for the chicks.

It's not a huge worry. I'm not a chicken cuddler. I love to see them live their best life in their somewhat natural environment and try to provide plenty of space for all the chicken behaviors. They are fun to watch, but I don't need them on my lap. I know most people on here do like that, which is fine with me. They can come cuddle my chickens any time they want.

You can breed for friendliness. I have cockerels who haven't been handled become affection sponges once they out of the freak out stage. I have been selecting for sweet boys for years, though. Im set back a bit that after ordering eggs, but each generation improves.

Mom thinks it's funny to hear me yelling at silkies because they will not get out from under foot when im trying to enter the pen. They all rush me.

Yeah I can't fit into my brooder anymore either haha, it's too hard to bend down and contort myself to reach all the way in nowadays. I can reach the food, water and heating pad, and I clean by just stirring the bedding around once a week, so that's good enough.

I'm not a cuddler either but I do want the birds tame enough that they'll mostly come when called and don't instantly flee just because I'm nearby. The fact that some of them will follow me around and talk to me or will stay still to be picked up is a bonus.

I think Bill and I are distant relations that way.
Birds have a job they do theirs I care for them.
One of mine used to jump up on me when she was 10 weeks old or so. I thought it was cool until one of her claws punctured my arm and drew blood. From then on I let them know that that kind of behavior was unacceptable. LOL

My birds getting situated on their roost tonight...

There were only six in the coop. The hen no one likes was all the way in the other side of the run in the nest box. First time I saw that. I picked her up and put her into the coop the others.
