Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

The grandkids came out to visit today which was really nice. But it was the first time my chickens ever saw them, and my chickens get nervous around "new" people. After letting the grandkids feed the chickens some scratch to get acquainted I let the hens out to forage in the yard.

Well, the chickens wanted to get away from the new people, so they spent the afternoon way down in the woods. I was worried that a predator would get one of them, but luckily they all survived. I did a head count and all seven are still alive and kicking.

Oh yeah, I gave them a roasted chicken leg quarter to eat in the run and they acted as expected... like little carnivorous raptors. LOL. Chickens are fun!

I plan to plant my small bok choi and lettuce starts in the garden tomorrow afternoon. They already have their first true leaves, so they're big enough. I put them all on the east-side porch railing this morning to start hardening them off a little.

Plus starting Wednesday we're back to cool, cloudy and wet weather, which should help the new plantings get established in the garden soil.

The tomatoes are ready to be moved into larger pots, but I need to get a bag of potting soil first. Both flat and curly parsley are sprouting now, and all the peppers are up too.
