Welsummers NOT laying yet.......

People hear about birds bred for egg laying (sex-links, leghorns, etc.) and expect other breeds to mature and start laying early too. OFTEN other breeds mature more slowly.

Of all of my mixed flock, the Welsummers were, BY FAR, the slowest to begin to lay. They were quick to feather and quick to grow and seemed happy and healthy. They were spring chicks and looked ready at 24 weeks so I thought it would be any day. They sure fooled me! Their range was 36-42 weeks to begin to lay!
