Spirit - the amazing grey dewlap toulouse gander!

Thanks guys!! The two ganders with orange/black beaks are (best guess) about 14 years old. The rest are 2012 babies.... ranging from late February to late June. Brown africans should have solid black beaks. My teenage ganders are toulouse/african crosses, so they have the combo colored beaks. I also have a couple of brown/white african crosses that have orange mixed into their black beaks, as white africans have orange beaks.

Ask and ye shall receive....... new pics of Spirit! I sat down about 10 feet from him to take pics, when he decided he wanted to come sit in my lap... so you can see him hopping/limping to me and then happily chilling in my lap.

By the way, note the dinks in his beak in the last pic? Caught him fence-fighting yesterday... he thinks he is so tough!
He looks like he's doing great !

They sure make for a good looking group (and christmas card photos!!)

Thank you, everyone! It is so nice to know people who care about geese as loved pets (not a business product or meat for human consumption), the way I do.

Ruru, thanks! And the red hair... it's from a bottle. lol

Psue, I took the fence fighting as a good sign, actually. Clearly he is feeling better if he is acting that way.

J, thats why I have to practice birth control here with my flock, Not only can we not eat our geese and ducks but I even have trouble letting them go to pet homes I get so attached so quick.

I know exactly what you mean. My dogs are in heaven with all the fertile duck eggs they got to eat this summer/fall. I plan on selling/swapping my goose eggs next spring for so cheap that they will all get to be hatched, but not by me.

Good plan, and my dogs love duck eggs too.

We become attached to our breeders but have no trouble eatting the young that are hatched for eatting ( mixed breeds) . I do look forward to watching more babies grow up and increasing our Dewlap flock.

I haven't a problem with folks eating their ducks/geese if they chose to do so, we eat our extra roos, it's just us we're whimpy.

I know what you mean. I had every intention of making myself eat something, but in the end, it was only the extra boy ducks that I could do it too. I can't eat one of my breeder geese, but I too would feel oK with eating offspring, so long as I remembered not to get to know them, or ever interact beyond sweet and loving care and feeding.
