At what age do the roosters start crowing? Just wondering if I can keep my little boys for the summer or if I should sell them before my travels....don't want my neighbor to be bothered by the crowing.
I am really impressed so far by how strong and smart these chicks seem compared to the Orpington chicks I have hatched out before. The Bielefelders really seem to have it together. Good thing, too, cause their "mama" seems to randomly give the closest chick a hard peck every once in a while. She is taking care of them, but I think she is a bit ambivalent about motherhood, lol.
She is probably just keeping the darn chick in line!
My biele roo started crowing at 12.5 weeks. It sounded quite funny at first, like he wasn't sure what he was doing! He has mastered everything but the timing of it. He crows well after sunrise!
Have you talked to your neighbor about the crowing? Technically, we aren't supposed to have Roos because of the noise ordinance, but all my neighbors are ok with mine... I've asked them to let me know if it becomes a problem. Then I might try one of those collars before I finally give them up. My second guy is only 9 weeks old, and a Crested Cream Legbar.
Enjoy them! Kaiser has just started being the last one into the coop at night. He has also started trying strut his stuff with the girls. One of the Silver Lace Wyandottes turned around and yanked out a couple of his feathers, so he left her alone!
