Minnesota!

I assume everyone knows the old adage about a dog taking on the personality of it's master..

Does the same apply to chickens? Say you have chickens that are slackers, does that mean the owner is a slacker?

Just something to ponder.......

. Lololol jkjk I'm not a slacker. Maybe they r taking after the milk cow. Eating more and producing less.

Did I tell u all my cockerels started trying to crow?? It sounds like its being strangled!!

Has anyone ever had a hen that likes to camp in a nest box?

Twice she has fooled me into thinking she is broody, Each time I have locked her in a pen with eggs to hatch and when she is "done" being broody I find more eggs than I started ( a lot more).

She puffs up, she growls, she clucks, all signs show her being broody. next time I am going to shove a rectal thermometer up her butt and make her prove she is really broody. OR she will end up taking the Ice water challenge..

Have I showed you guys my new coop?? Got it for free from my moms dad so my grandpa.

It the coop I keep my chicks in now when young and my roos and their hens.

@The BlanchRanch Your pictures are hard to see anything clearly at least on my computer. Are there any other symptoms or injuries that could be making her eye weep? Does she seem bothered by it? I have had chickens suffer from pecks or scratches to the eye that responded really well to saline rinses and neosporin. I have not had one constantly weep. Hope you can figure out something soon.

Ralphie how is Bert doing?

Regarding cats and chickens: I have 2 cats that behave themselves with the chickens. In fact 2 days ago I was in the run and noticed something out of the corner of my eye that wasn't right. I looked over and there was the cat sitting on the log in the run with about 6 chickens all around her. She looked like she belonged in the run with them. The chickens did not act like it was a threat at all. Even when I hollered at her and booted her out everyone was calm except me thinking there must be a carcass somewhere. Like Nordic said the little chicks are just too tempting to leave where a cat might get them. So be sure to secure the littles.

Thanks! I just copied and pasted that post to print off.

We are trying to read Wheat Belly right now. I think this is my biggest struggle - bread and giving it up. More successful getting the dogs and cats to a healthier diet than we are at getting ourselves on one!!

What is Wheat Belly? I have heard of leaky gut syndrome but not really sure I know what that means, yeast over growth I think.

Can I vent again? Too bad I am going to anyway!
Who's hair brained idea was FedEx Smartpost?! I ordered something last week, it is scheduled to arrive next week and it is only coming from Indiana!! I could have driven there and back and be home a week before FedEx Smartpost will get it here!! I kid you not it has taken 3 weeks sometimes to get stuff with the smartpost. What crap! BTW my menards FINALLY came after I sat here all day waiting. But the driver was nice so I forgive them for wasting my day.

Cats and Chickens

My father told me that yesterday he saw Handsome Tony
400
snoozing in the grass by the coop fence and Sunshine sitting a few feet away.

It makes sense that chicks are interesting, roosters are not.

It's a new diet that advocates eliminating grains and monitoring glycemic index in foods. It makes sense in that a breakfast of bacon and eggs will keep you sated longer than a waffle or a donut.

Bert is fine I moved him into a secure cage (again). He must be traumatized by now watching all these hens around him bite the big one from some nasty critter.
What is FedEx SmartPost
FedEx SmartPost is a shipping service that utilizes the U.S. Postal Service

(USPS) for final delivery.
Reference: www.fedex.com/us/smart-post/outbound.html

What it really is: Crappy delivery service that takes an eternity!!

So it is FedEx AND the Usps working together (HA!!) to ship a package.
