Chicken Nutrition- What Your Chicken Needs in Its Feed

I have sprouted corn and black sun flower seeds in the kitchen in foil pans. It can be a pain but well worth it as the girls really go nuts for them.

I am not feeding squirrels anymore and am taking up feed after the chickens eat. (Which I hate to do because they need food in winter to keep warm) I can't shoot them. Afraid to poison them. My son in law has come over with pellet gun, but hasn't seen any (he says

) but they still come and go inside the run to get ant spare seeds etc. I already have seen one hawk, of course I have several bird feeders and right now they pick them off from time to time. Still trying to figure out a viable solution
Have you tried fermenting their feed before giving it to them? And maybe get rid of yer wild bird feeders or place them in opposite direction of where yer chickens are kept. I.E if they're currently in place of yer back yard with yer flock then move all wild bird feeders to the front yard area instead. Sprout any and all seeds before feeding them to your flock, this along with the fermented food has shown to disinterest squirrels and many other wild birds.

I have used safflower seed because I read that squirrels didn’t care for it and for a time this was true but they have developed a taste for it. I don’t have any bird feeders in the yard with the girls. They are in the front yard. The squirrels come to get scattered chicken feed and anything else they can find

There are eight things your chickens need nutritionally to be happy and healthy birds:
1. Protein
2. Grains
3. Greens
4. Grit
5. Calcium
6. Vitamin A and Vitamin D
7. Salt
8. WATER WATER WATER WATER
So, how do you get these things in your chicken’s diet? Below are some tips for providing your egg layers and meat birds with the best diet possible.

1. Protein
Protein is essential for ...good growth. ....Mixing soybeans in a dish for them to eat... is an excellent way to provide them additional protein.

I will comment on the rest of this post as time permits, but allow me to state that if your chickens will eat raw soybeans then you are a better chicken whisperer than myself.
