I have two pekin ducklings. They just spent their first night outside last night. I switched feeders to a larger one that I use for my chickens. Bad idea. One duck now has a cut in the end of her beak/bill. How do I care for the cut? Will it repair itself? What's the best type of feeder to prevent this? Rubber?

Is there a sharp spot on the feeder? i have chickens too and none of the feeders would cut a ducks bill. Now some of the smaller variety could be troublesome for getting the feed out more easily but again none would give injury.

I have rubber bowls and my main feeder is one we built ourselves out of an old wooden ship crate, we have since enlarged the top platform since they enjoy sitting on it lol

Not that I can tell. But I can't think of what else could have done it. :(

How do I care for it? It's right on the tip. Does it hurt? Should I be worried?

Ps. I feel like an idiot. So much to learn.

Not at all! an idiot would not inquire/ask/research

I would thoroughly check the feeder to see if that was the problem. As for the beak, hmmm.. do you have any antibiotic cream? Vaseline could work depends, main thing is not wanting it infected that said ducks are always dunking their heads so it shouldn't that is why i lean towards the Vaseline and keeping an eye.
