By the way to answer a previous question, the vanilla is easy to make actually.  You just combine cut vanilla beans and vodka.  Shake daily for 6 weeks and keep it in a dark cupboard.  The longer it sets the stronger it gets.  I included vanilla beans so that more vodka can be added to create more as the original empties, kind of like you do with pepper sauce when you add vinegar.  Any place on e-bay that sells the vanilla beans will have an exact recipe on how to make vanilla extract.

droolin.gif I need the recipe for the herb flavored oil too...... Would love to try and make my own vanilla extract it is so darn expensive to buy.

The herb flavored oil is even easier to make and tastes great on any crusty french or italian bread.  Just get the best quality olive oil you can afford extra virgin at least and mix whatever mixture of herbs you like the flavor.  I use dried as the basis and add a little fresh for appearance and a little extra oomph.  The easiest combo is just Mrs. Dash original seasoning mix and some fresh thyme and garlic.  Rub the thyme slightly to release the oils and chop the garlic cloves into pieces small enough to fit into the bottle.  You can use some grated lemon peel, or any other flavor that you really like.  It makes a wonderful seasoning to rub on roasted chicken to get it to brown wonderfully or use a little in the bottom of the pan when you are cooking your ground beef for spaghetti sauce.  Yummy!  You just need to watch the garlic unless you are a garlic fanatic like I am.  It can get too heavy for people that aren't into garlic.  If you like garlic try using this instead of butter on french bread sliced about 1/4 to 1/2 thick and brown in the broiler of your oven until toasted.

Garlic & basil go in almost everything around here. Think I need to put some in my EVOO bottle big_smile.png
