Pigs sound like fun. Too bad our village is very anti-pig & anti-goat.
I know about the pigs because a woman moved here from Chicago & owned a pet pot-bellied pig. She rented a house with a nice yard thinking the extra space in the suburbs would make them happy. She was basically threatened by the village to get rid of her loyal pet or go to jail. It was in several papers. She gave up & moved.
Thats really sad! I admit believed the same until I really started to look at pigs for us. I have an adult potbelly here, Marla. She is about 40 lbs, and actually very personable as a pet. She plays fetch, and is very affectionate. My livestock hogs are just as friendly, and every one of them act like a pet too. Goats, they are like a dog, loyal, loving and very friendly, my Sugar (Oberhasli doe) will free range and stays with me all day. Adult bucks only will have musty odors during breeding season. If properly fed and cared for, both species, goats or pigs don't smell aside from a buck in rut. I call that ignorance on the village's end for sure, a little research is well worth harmony in a community .
