What I'd like to say about this is 1.) we all love it when you vent because it's you telling us your problems showing you care about our thoughts and trust our opinions
2.) it's always good to vent it helps release stress so that we can continue to fight the good fight
3.) people who say they are just animals to me are mean hypocritical people...
To explain what I mean by that.. Although I am a religious person sorta(fuzzy on that) I also believe in evolution couldn't call myself intelligent while raising chickens and refusing evolution... But the point is we (humans) are just animals too so that statement holds no merit with me to why they should go and not the person " we need them to survive, they do not need us" also another quote I like is humans are a virus we destroy almost everything we come into contact with if someone were to only cure the planet of her sickness the world would thrive again. Now I don't always advocate the extinction of the human species but there's no good reason (in my mind) that we should hold ourselves higher then any other living creature or elemental thing we are all equal we all have our roles to play non is more important then the next(I think)
4.) if and when I get to the point I have a vehicle and a grasp on what I'm doing here I will more then gladly help you share your load of work and care. even if it's just driving up on the weekend or something to help out.. I'm also sure that I'm not the only one...hell might even count to college volunteer work or something idk... But I think there's help out there if you simply ask.. I bet we could like start a shelter or something where we all spend a few hours or days volunteering there
I thank you all for reading and I apologize if my words were to harsh for anyone or to offensive
Thanks for the kind words and the offer of help.
I think some are thinking I have " A Rescue " I don't. I take in a rescue from time to time, when I have the space and money ( well I never have that but you know what I mean ) I don't get in over my head. Take in more then I can handle physically. Now mentally, that's another story sometimes ( like this year, its been real hard ). I even have to county call me sometimes, but if I don't have to space or money I can sit aside for said animal I refer them to others. I have a rule... No more than 1 sick animal at a time. No more then 2 healthy animals at a time. not that I would love to be able to take in every critter that needs it, I know what I can do and what I cant. And doing more then that to me is being a hoarder.. and that is not what I am. I re-home 99% of any critters I take in as rescues. I do have " My critters " then I have the " rescues " I do what I can and I know I cant save them all... but you all have to admit 41 in 1 year ( includes my own and rescues ) is a bit much. That is what has sent me over the deep end so to speck........ Never have I lost this many or even close in just an 8 month period. Just so ya know 32 of that number were my chicks, 15 silkies I bought for a friend and the rest I hatched. 8 goat kids ( 3 bottle babies ) and 1 old dog that had been starved to nothing.
I thank all of you for letting me vent, I do respect your opinions. I love this thread b/c even tho we all have our own ways about things, we all respect life, and care for and about our critters. Not a person here would be caught saying " it's just an animal " even the animals used for food are treated well until d day.
I came home from work yesterday very excited to see this baby for the first time! She was MISSING.
The other fact I noticed: Mom's crop was really full.
Dunno what happened between 2 hours before I got home, and when I got home, but Mom must've eaten the chick for some reason. Did the chick die and Mom was cleaning the nest? Dunno. I don't know if poultry even do that sort of thing.
I moved Mom and remaining 6 eggs into solitaire. I'm so BUMMED!
So sorry that stinks bad. I had to get rid of a BJG b/c she was eating her chicks.
Thank you Janet for everything you do and have done for the thread! If it wasn't for you this thread would be here!
So work hasn't slowed down much for me. I'm now managing two stores at wince for another week. Then I hope it slows down for good! I still have several people to reply back to regarding chickens .I haven't forgotten. Will try to get back here soon. I actually took some vacation time at the end of next week! And it's not a stay-cation! Getting away from the house and animals for several day. Much needed break!
Sadly I've started to come home to less roosters. Well came home to find a hawk eating a Cochin! So frustrating.
So sorry I feel for ya I really do.
Hi, all. I know I haven't been terribly active here in the past months, but I thought I would stop by and let those of you who admired her through my pictures and stories that my beloved Frou-Frou left us today. I am beside myself with grief at the moment, so apologies for the lack of detail. I'm just without the words right now.
It is very hard to lose the special ones, I enjoyed reading about her adventures.
Well I don't have very good news either. Went to check on my Lavender Orp hens this morning and found one dead, just sick over it. She appears to have been egg bound, and with all this running around all week I didn't catch it. They had a hard molt and had not been laying. My other hen seems ok but am really watching her close now. Am introducing the pullet and black cockerel (both still very young) to the pen so she is not alone. Orp rooster is out of the pen until the molt is finished and laying resumes.
They have been the healthiest, most vigorous breed I have aside from my EEs, really blind sided by this loss. Guess it can happen in any breed, production or heritage.
So very sorry seems this year has really been hard on all the critters.
Wish I had you luck. You think you could send some this way???????
