Congrats on the new kids and hope the little one does well.
Good luck with your papers and schooling.
Maybe something along the lines of the old type grist mills but with a slight twist
to make a hammer type that drops onto the shells.....Mozza turns the wheel that raises
the hammer to a catch release to drop the hammer block onto the shells.........just a wild idea.
A grist mill would be perfect. Getting a couple of 4'stones in my carry on could be troublesome
I looked into a hammer mill in the past. It would take around 1300 bags of shells to break even versus paying staff without power consumption.
The device uses a 15hp motor. The power consumption would be $5 per hour. An oyster crusher human min wage is $6 per day. If it could do 10 sacks per hour versus 10 sacks per day then it would take 7000 sacks to break even provided that there was no parts replacement. I pay $7.50 so that bumps it up to 14000 sacks.
One increases the carbon footprint. The other gives someone a job that can support a family (2lbs rice, a pound of fish and 2 pounds of veges is about 3 bucks)
The thing about the mill though is that it does not smoke in the house, leave the water running or get drunk lol
