I'm not sure who's craziest you who drove willy nilly picking up eggs to pack in a golf bag for a bumpy ride over the ocean, all so you could make your island paradise a little more improved....

Or crazy me who found this thread as I laid down for bed tonight and had to read the whole thing. Lol

Cant wait to hear what the locals say about green eggs.
bet you go with cochineal for your broodies...more eggs will fit
Don't forget to build a broody coop & run
enjoyed playing where's Waldo (polish mix) with the chick pics
Save a beer for me...I claim the third nest box from the left.
Thanks for the bedtime story..it was worth the sleep deprivation..subscribing
no sleep for the wicked.

Ps...that frog was under my bed last summer and will add you and Mrs oz to my prayers for a less stressful and speedy completion of the adoption

Hugs

The whole world is crazy except you and me....and I am not really sure about you D.gif

Thanks for the kind words. I loved the "where's waldo" analogy - I thought the same thing as I was searching for him.

Here are a few pics of the underwater life in our area. Mrs Oz and I are avid scuba divers. We are delighted that our two kids possess fish like attributes.

Fantastic!!! How lucky you are to scuba dive and snorkel in such a great place. We do it from time to time in Oz and it seems to gladden the heart to see such amazing sights.

Your kids are having a great life-education too, I bet they can swim like anything.

Looking forward to more pics!

I 'll take a few moments of sheer terror than months of frozen toes any time. The only thing not good about the lack of four seasons is stonefruit. I reckon Mrs Oz would just about kill for a peach like the one we had a few years back on route 6 in PA.

ohhh for the love of HUGE juicey WHITE PEACHES!! YUP!!!!  even better in the middle of winter pulled from the freezer already sliced peeled and 100% LOVE!

Just let me know when to start building your coop.... I mean house.

Seriously though - if anyone is adventurous enough to come and play with chickens and watch a sunrise, I will have a cold San Miguel beer waiting.

If only I was younger! I would JUMP for new adventures! I would love to visit I have only been out of the country to Jamaca and that was an experience as a "vacationer", one I disliked until the last day we had a wonderful local plan our agenda for the day! Nothing like visiting a place and enjoying and seeing everday life, bad and good, amazing and sad. The behind the vacationer walls the market was AMAZING so much creativity and art, lovely fruits and oh their is nothing like a fresh cut pc of sugar cane to suck on! It was a good day that day, we visiited areas that were all just for normal locals and didnt have people begging to braid our hair so we could be a perfect 10!

The scuba/snork pics are awesome!

oh and I will take a coconut instead of a beer any day wink.png

What other adventures have you pondered to help feed everyone? What else does Bernie garden?

Chickens......what you do for nest bedding & for floors down there? sand and ?

And I believe that you've actually built a 1/2 chicken coop and 1/2 Bed&Breakfast for all us chicken addicts who are STUCK IN THE SNOW.

What's your rate going to be?!  I'm pretty certain you could rent it out very easily for most of the year - and we'll all bring hatching eggs in golf bags too!

Coop is fantastic.  You and Bernie did an incredible build in a very short time frame.  Especially knowing you had two little 'helpers' (i.e. kiddos) to keep you distracted.  As for how many chickens you have total, until you know how many cockerals are involved, each one is precious.  Then, about 6wks-10wks old, those little cockerals aren't so cute as keepers anymore...but they're cute for drumsticks!

Hey Mrs. Oz!  Thanks for sharing your story and including some pictures of the successful hatches!  I've got 6 in the bator now with just 6 more days to go until my own hatch date.  It's good to be inspired by pictures of fluffy chicks!

I probably over did it on the coop.Maybe I should move the chooks out put a for rent shingle on the front. It was meant to be simple with bamboo walls but as its fiesta season, I could not get bamboo - it was all sold to people for making booths to sell at the Sinulog festival. Atleast with the hardwood walls it will last a long long time. I will eventually make its twin facing it, sharing a fence. That will give me room for 120 layers. I have to build bernie and analou a little stuccoed cinder block house first. It will take a year or so to build to that many production birds.

the next few coops will be 4 x 6 row houses for our purebreds if i can do it again. I am hoping I can take 18 eggs of seven different breeds next time. Orpingtons, Cochins, Australorps, Marans, Polish, Aracaunas and Rhode Islands are currently on the top of the list. If I get the same hatch rate there will be about 35 hens and lots of big roasters - and a good start on seeing how the market takes to breeding pairs.

NEVER can one "over did" coopage! And you will certainly put it to great use!

120 Layers, How ever will you put that many egg cartons in your golf bag?? LOL

Which reminds me, How do you obtain feed down there and is it expensive? Are you also going to try Fermenting? I can say that after 2.5 weeks my EGGS have grown to XXL and the hens and roos are eating less than HALF the feed, and you have the warmth down there it should be so easy to set up a quick and simple system! In due time......

Sheesh - talk about a little bit of paradise! You'll be supplying the entire country with eggs and meat in a couple years at the rate you're going!

Kudos for jumping in with both feet!
