Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

that's true could have been called Amercauna but is EE. Some ppl don't really know the diff.
pure Amercauna have only blue eggs( it is a robin egg blue though). but not the green in the pic.
I just had an EE also not sure who but do know the dad is lavender Amercauna.....lay a green egg the other day My first green.
It looked just like the ones in the pic here.
EAR COLOR....I have heard that too Then i have heard you cant tell by the ears...IDK.
My Lavender Amercaunas have very blue ears and blue eggs but I don't know if that would hold true for a EE or even if its just coincidental the ears on these are blue just like the eggs.
Pink egg would be just a tan that looks pink,. My tan egg layers now and then have a more pink egg. EEs can have pink eggs or whatever other color the parent breed is that isn't EE or Amercauna .I THINK they are concidered an EE if they do lay a colored egg.. some can have an EE parent and just lay regular eggs. I guess they aren't a EE then? not sure.
If yours hatched from a blue egg and grew up and laid a green egg then its one parent was a tan egg layer breed
Is this clear as mud or what?.

A pure Americauna will lay a blue egg.An EE if the one parent is Americauna or blue egg layer and other breed is a tan egg layer can but not necessarily will lay green egg.The blue color is laid out over the original coloir of egg so a white egg layer crossed with a pure Amercauna will lay a blue egg.A tan egg layer crossed with a blue will lay a green of some kind.
I thought that because a blue egg shell is the same color on the inside as out, and a brown egg is only brown on the outside and white inside, that the brown was laid on (and will wash off) and the blue is in the shell. But what do I know?

I guess I was off a tad.

We have had 6 pip zip and hatch while everyone was working on the roof. 2 Australorps 2 Cuckoo Marans 2 Red Sex Links pullets. All the same SoCal supplier. More Cuckoo Marans, the last SL and some shipped buff orps have pipped.

I have fingers crossed for the 2 other Australorps and I have some pullets amongst them!!

The hatch continues. We have Ameraucana, Australorp, Cuckoo Marans, Orpington and Red Sex Links out.
We ended up replacing half the garage roof. This buys me a little time to replace it with a 4" concrete deck in a year or so.

Congrats on the hatch going so well! Hooray for chickies!!

Good luck with everything. I hope things go OK. (I have SO been-there!)
