Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Sold some Marans babies to a nice Philipino family the other day. This is notable since I live in the middle of nowhere and there is little racial diversity. He was telling me about chickens in the philipinnes and how they raise them. He wants to try the 'merican way. He is fascinated by diversity of fluffy big chickens available in this country. I followed all the conversation well since I have been following this thread.

Hey OZ I had a break down again. We treat the kids to seeing baby birds whenever we go by a certain farm store.

They had Bronze turkeys, sign said $7.69/Ea. SR. SO I broke down and got 4. 2 for eating and 2 for next years breeding (thats the idea anyway) but when she totaled my stuff I was like WOAH what are the turkeys she said $10.49. So I argued that's not what sign said. She got huffy, but gave them to me for the listed price, AFTER she pulled the sign down. Guess I had the look of "You can keep them then." now to break the "good" news to the wife.
And the ducklings are starting to hatch, 2nd broody (hen) setting up shop too. Good thing we have a date to her favorite restaurant tonight. This was pre-planned by her.

The turkeys are probably broad breasted.

The males will not reproduce with out artificial insemination but you can get a medium breasted bronze and cross with the hens.

I have a couple of broad breasted bronze eggs - hoping to get them to hatch. I would love to bring a 40lb turkey to my mother in law for Christmas and ask her to clean it! (My MIL does not process birds btw)

Wonder how she'd react to an ostrich...
