Castles, ruins and gatehouses... Pic heavy.

Avila, in the north of Spain, is surrounded by these medieval granite walls. It took an incredible amount of work to build them. They rise up from the natural granite outcroppings of that hilltop.


Here is Mrs. Gargoyle walking the path on top of the walls:


If you look closely, you'll see her looking back through the crenelations on top of the turret:



And here she is waving to me from one of the town gates:
And I love these! Those walls are amazing...
 
Kilcoe Castle, Kilcoe, Co Cork. In spite of it's startling colour it's quite stunning. Oh, lucky people to be living here *sigh*








 
I love this thread - thanks for showing it to me.

We live near a few castles. Corgarff, Balmoral and Huntly are all pretty close.

But my favourite ruin is an empty house on the cliff of Portsoy. In a storm the waves crash through the old window. I can imagine the previous tenant sitting there and watching the waves, thinking "I really have to move" :)
