It's rotten that nothing has happened yet!  Not fair to have none hatch after so much time trying!   I'm still hoping you get some who are just late. fl.gif   If not, I am sure your next hatch will be better.

Where did you get your eggs from?

So sorry! I've just got this one, & I understand lone chicks rarely survive so it looks grim.

I still don't get what was wrong here -- if it was the 104 temp spike, why did I have 2 wrong end pips and a hatched chick?

I need to figure out what causes wrong end pips, b/c I think that is more my problem here than the flacky digital reading 104 for some short time, if that was true won't _all the eggs be gonners?

Anyway, I can relate, 3 weeks + and the eggs just sitting there not hatching just really feels bad.

I hope ya'll find yourselves a great broody hen and have much future chicken happiness!

I candled the remaining eggs :

1 chicken egg due Sat too dark to tell

5/6 duck eggs due Sat show movement! <-- fantastic, but how is it possible?

I'm completely confused by this given only 1 live chick from the first round of 11 chicken eggs??

This egg incubation project is WAY more difficult that it sounds.

I'm technically a third of the way through day 22 and a few of my eggs haven't pipped. I'm going to give them another day and hopefully they will by then. One of my eggs that arrived cracked hatched earlier so I'm pretty happy about that. How long should I wait before assisting?

Lost a little chickie last night... it was one of the ones with the yolk still attached when it hatched. Pretty bummed since she was an unusual color and might have been from my BLR Wyandotte.

More chickens than one woman ought to have, eight Angora goats, one llama, two dogs, a cat, a husband and a kid.

Knitter? Spinner?  My Etsy shop:  Shooting Yarn  Happy to trade fiber and yarn for hatching eggs!

Growing out: B/B/S Ameraucana and Spangled Russian Orloff

I have never had to assist, so can't help with first hand experience.... but here is an article that should be able to answer questions for you

Well I had great luck with my shipped Basque eggs-they all hatched with exception of the "extra" that came with them. But, none of my wyandottes hatched(day 23barnie.gif)-they were from a good looking batch of birds from up north, I think the shippng was the culprit(they all went in same time as the basque eggs). I already ordered another batch (from elsewhere) and can't wait to try again.

My tiny chick J is still alive :)

J is looking a lot better, walking great, peeps very loudly.

I got J to eat some yogurt last night, I thought that was important esp. b/c of the huge hernia when hatched which looks fairly well healed now.

But I have never had a chick this tiny! I gave soft cooked egg today and it could not bit off a piece, I had to feed it a spec so small I could hardly see it on my finger tip.

I guess this chick might be about the size of quail? Have any of you ever had such a small chick? How do you feed it? The normal chick crumbles just look way too big & dry.

The specs of egg it took were like 1/4 the size of a crumble piece.

I'm working on trying to arrange to get it a small chick friend on or before Sat when I need to take it away from the duck eggs b/c they will hatch like giants compared to this chick.

Right now it is still in w/ the 1 chicken & 5 ducks eggs which it is snuggling w/ & peeping to so that is giving it some comfort I think, but then J will need a friend and I have little hope that

my odd oval chicken egg will hatch when the great looking 10 eggs w/ J all failed.

Any advice of feeding a tiny chick?

Thanks

Fey Raine
