Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

My Day 7 (Sat Jan 12,2013) Candling

Using a flashlight w/ tin foil tapped around it so the egg gets set partway in the tinfoil an I look at it kinda sideways.

7 Duck eggs:

Egg A - ? veins or small blood ring? , was in the far away windy spot, changed my plan and moved it to on spot right under blub to see it is developes in the next day or two...

Egg B - pretty certain that was a blood ring, but will wait until day 10

Eggs C-D-E-F-G - ALIVE, slightly diff. rates of progress but all very nice viens, & most had movement/heartbeat ! <grow little WH duckies

11 CHICKEN EGGS :

Very confusing -- most of the Green I could not see into AT ALL,
I could maybe see into some of the choc. but wow these are even thicker eggs than the last batch! I'd say about half are developing if I had to guess, but I didn't see much to go on.

Egg C - choc w/ pinkish grey undertones, Large egg, poss. x SFH (oh I hope!) right under the bulb, I clearly can see a chick, way more advanced (assume due to heat) has a dark eye spot, lots of movement looks like a day 10 egg rather than a day 7 egg based on last hatch so that hotter spot hasn't killed it so far but it will hatch first at this rate.

Egg J - Mint Green, very small, very narrow pointy end! - This is the only green egg I could really see into & I'm concerned -- There was great massive veining w/ a central chick blob, but it appears to be located in the top of the wide area, *exactly where the air cell should be* and I don't see any air cell line ??!! Could there be an air cell & I'm seeing the veins/chick down through the void air cell space and all is well? or could it be developing in the wide top area and this chick is doomed? Again, it is the only Green egg I could really see into, and aside from placement it looked great. Anyone seen this b/f?

Well that is my 7 day report, I'll not be able to keep my hands off & will likely candle 1 or 2 diff eggs every night now just trying to see if I can see anything as they grow bigger.

Hope everyone else is seeing lots of signs of life in their eggs today !

Ours has been very touchy too. We are doing a dry hatch and our humidity has risen to 50%. This is mainly because is has been raining for the last couple of days. Besides removing all of the water from your trays I don't know what else you can do. A wise member on this thread assured me that broody hens hatch chicks all the time in areas where the humidity is very high. Put my mind at ease a little bit. Short of turning on the air conditioning in the middle of winter, I don't know what else to do :(. I think as long as it stays below 50 you should be ok.
thanks! :) its again very touchy today we are having a warm up this weekend and we are guessing that is why it has been so touchy. hopefully it doesn't go any higher!

well i don't know if any of you guys on here do the mystery swaps held by reesepoultry every month but we have been doing it since november and we received 6 mystery eggs!! haha i guess we will now be starting 6 more eggs tomorrow in our homemade incubator!! EGG!
Important Egg

1st Egg of 2013 here !!!!

Also, First (other than 4 pullet eggs) since the hens reacted to the odd weather by going into moult in SEPT!
& 1st from Ugly my EE, since I put her w/ the new pure (Black) Ameraucana “BlueJeanBoy” (as in Blue gene) the only Roo Ugly has ever let w/in 5 ft of herself, and they were rubbing shoulders at the feeder last week…

The Egg is darker green & larger than her pullet eggs last yr.
This egg is oddly oval and I’m not certain I have the correct end up, but

The Egg is in the bator !!! (gotta test fertility, right)

It should hatch just after any of the Maran eggs, on or about Groundhog Day w/ the Ducks.
Can you tell how thrilled I am?”

Does being able to see the air sac developed a good sign? I was able to see that in some of the green eggs.

I'm also using a LG still air. I've always had good luck. I dry incubate and the humidity stays right at 16%, no troubles there. How do you keep the eggs from rolling around so violently? I don't really want to use egg carton unless that is my only option. I know it was discussed before but, what is anyone using? I'm spring cleaning here and am moving my 10 gal fish tank to the bathroom where the incubator is. I'm positive it is going to change the humidity, hopefully not too much. I'm ready to have the fish tank out of the kitchen.

Yes, b/c Un-fertile eggs have no air cell or it never enlarges (& if the embryo dies they stop enlarging too). So w/ several of my dark maran eggs last time the ONLY thing I could see was the air cell so I marked a line at its edge w/ the incubation day on the line, then when I repeated this days later I could see the new line was bigger so I knew the embryo at least was alive those days.

However, unless it is a pure while egg, don’t give up yet!

Several of my eggs Green & choc. I can’t see into well enough to know if there is an air cell or not,
Unless it is oozing or smells keep it in the bator and hope it is just being shy & mysterious as it grows!

Temp temp temp!! Woke up to the bulb thermo that comes with the Hovabator on the eggs looking over 100!!! Arrrrg! The electronic one that's set just above the eggs on a rack was still at 99, which is where it's been. Hope I didn't cook the babies! Tomorrow night is day 7, so we'll candle and see...
