Today's temperature = # of eggs. - Page 9

I see your from vermont! Me and my fiancee plan on taking a 4 day trip up there for spring break... Our spring break starts March 18th... Do you guys still have snow then? What are some things we can do????

 

Maybe Depends on the year and where you are in the state, etc. If you ski or ride, guaranteed there will be snow on the slopes. If they don't have enough natural, they just make their own.

 

So which part(s) of VT are you going to?

 

- If way north, Jay Peak has good skiing and they put in an indoor water park last year. My younger daughter is there this weekend blowing the money her GS troop has saved up. They are all seniors and when the troop breaks up the GS council get any left over money that the GIRLS raised selling cookies through the years. They are making sure there isn't any

 

- If mid, (and you ski/ride) Stowe or Smuggs. (Don't try to take VT 108 between Smuggs and Stowe, it is closed in the winter). Sugarbush is another large and nice ski area in the Mad River Valley. If you like a challenge, Mad River Glen.

 

Of course you HAVE to do the Ben and Jerry's factory in Waterbury and don't miss the cider doughnuts hot out of the cooker  (unless you are gluten intolerant, then forget I said anything because they are REALLY lousy but there is a lot more at the store so go anyway) just up VT 100 at the Cold Hollow Cider Mill. Lots of nice stores and restaurants in downtown Burlington plus a quick trip through the Champlain Chocolate factory on Pine St. Check out the "seconds". Never found ANYTHING wrong with them other than maybe size/shape/wrapping and they are WAY cheaper than the "firsts". I'm sure you want to buy your fiancee a VT Teddy Bear just down RT 7 at the factory in Shelburne.

 

Farther south there is a Vermont Country Store in both Weston and Rockingham. They cram a LOT of stuff in those stores and they are NOT small!

 

Farther south: Killington and Pico - good ski mountains.

 

Of course you'll find plenty of good restaurants in any of the ski resort areas.

Below 0F this morning. 4 eggs. Nothing when it warmed up all the way to 7F in the afternoon.

Haha thanks for all info, we where thinking about saying in northern Vermont maybe in stowe or the smugglers inn... We wanna do some hiking and just touring the area... I was there when i was really young and can barely remember it... What i do remember is the whole state is very scenic! As for my user name peggy sue is the name of our barred rock hen! Lol

 

 

Um, you might want to bring your snow shoes because you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere to hike in early March shy of the city sidewalks and shopping malls. Even if there isn't enough natural snow for skiing, what you'll find is the hiking trails will be at least partially covered since they are in the shade of trees (even deciduous trees) and if it happens to be above freezing, it will be a muddy mess. You want hiking, come in July or August (as it tends to rain more in June). OR late May before the mosquitoes and black flies hatch ,

Just above freezing today and 8 eggs. Going to be hard to square that with my time tested and proven theory given yesterday's temps.  

 

Supposed to be close to 40 tomorrow so when I get fewer eggs, it will validate the theory. There are always "throw out" data points right?

 

I better get a bigger egg basket for the rest of the week though. Supposed to drop like a stone tomorrow night, down to 0 F and that is the WARMEST overnight low for the week. It goes to -5 F Monday, then -7 F, then -9 F. Looks like we're jumping on the Clipper.

Sorry for the late reply. That is a courtnix quail egg!

High 30's most of the day dropping to the 20s by night fall. Had 2 eggs by 10 AM, 2 more between 3ish and 4:15 and one between 4:15 and 4:30. So, as the temp dropped, I got more eggs

 

Supposed to be +3F overnight and +10F tomorrow so I should get a decent quantity of eggs (says the bogus theory  ) .

Zorra was one of the 3ish to 4:15. That girl has to hit the "too late in the day to lay" part of her cycle. This is 16 days in a row, not that I am complaining!

2 eggs when I let them out at 9 AM, one more by 11:30.

 

Started at +1 F this morning, rose to +9 F.

So I can still claim warmer = fewer eggs, right?

 

Zorra didn't lay today so her streak ends at 16 days.

-20 wind chill last night and a high of +15 today... 3/5 eggs today and they were all laid by 9:00 am.... The cold doesn't seem to even bother them! 

-30 last night and no eggs this morning by 8:40am. I think I'll check later. I guess my girls are messing up the theroy...
