52 Week Money Challenge. Who wants to join in?

Selling a guinea pig cage today and that $40 is going into my savings.Ugh if I was doing for 3 I would have $556.As soon as I pay off the credit cards I am applying extra to my savings. I want that 5k by 11-12-13!

I wanted to go backwards but at this point I would need to deposit $514? Fingers crossed I can get that I'm this week! Hubby started a new job then whatever is in so far will just have to stay. Will try and get photo of my 'jar' up to the site today.

ug. do shekels count?
hubby earns the paycheck, i get a kibbutz fixed budget. we never manage to save , here, like many, we live from pay check to paycheck, not counting auto problems, vet meds, extras, and no luxuries... but i want to save something also. banks here eat up any savings with mnthly procesing fees so its like one step forward and two steps back with the money, it never grows... at least if its at home, there is no processing feed; so its back to the ;'under the mattress' style of savings account that most of us had 30 years ago.

so, we are 8 weeks in, so i have to catch p with shekels (worthless enough if u translate to dollars, but for us, worth something)... so 45 shekels this week? the problem is i can never work harder and make more money, for me, its the same regardless, so its just a matter of budgeting in the sums, the problem is , if someone can do the math in excel for me, that i only get 2000 shekels a month so at some point in time i will not be able to put the money in cause i wont have any to cover my extra costs on the kibbutz. hubby's money (not a kibbutz member so works for a paycheck, measly, but money) is for all medical insurance (required only) auto supplies, half the rent (he has to pay rent for my other half of the apartment, my 'rent' is part of what i work for),cell phones, insurance (car , country requried only,for him), benzene for his car (i use a kibbutz car)... not much left either from his paycheck.
maybe i will have to halve the amounts, like half the number of the week so it will be affordable for me, yet still give me some 'surprise' money at end of year.... a cute idea non the less, i will pass it on to my city friends, they might adopt the idea for themselves.

I put in my contribution today. I put the allotment both for this week and for next week. It is easier for me to do it that way.

How is everyone doing?

I'm still doing ! Due to children thinking the jar was for them to grab change, I filled up a diaper wipe box, threw $200 and all the change in it and duct taped it as soon as I have enough to fill another I'll stick it in there. I'm going to have a couple boxes to open up at the end of the year!!
