Setting eggs, anyone want to join me? - Page 3

Ok I have a question, one of my eggs one that would be on day 9 looks odd I can no longer see the embryo due to veins and a "black mass" forming around the entire egg. Is this normal? ( Its my first time hatching and candling eggs)

I can try I'll post it in a few, it strikes me odd too. Though there is a chance I could be a few days off when I placed it in.

Ok so I took a pic but nothin showed up in the image my phone sucks and my Egg isn't white either its mint colored. But there is no signs of a blood ring and the air sack is normal. There is like only a sliver about a half inch wide letting light through where the "mass" is about to meet. I think it may be a chick cause the mass roll's. I guess I'm just nervous and scared that they're going to die half way through again. sad.png

YAY! I'm so happy a few more have joined this thread! Good luck everyone big_smile.png I managed to get one more egg this morning, so I'm gonna pop it in later when I turn for the first time. O guess I'll mark it differently so I can see if it gets messed up. But, since its only a day behind I'm hoping it'll be alright fl.gif

My name is Roxanne and i am an addicted hatcher..th.gif.and .I dont want to read  this thread as my last batch are hatching  next week and i am trying not to hatch more until i get some from my own girlsDue to Lay SOON.. (aLSO ITS HATCH DAY FOR SOME IN LOCK NOW!)

Reading others giving in  and doing more makes it too tempting  to say Hey... dont i need more of that breed?

But i have given in too many times..GGaaahhh

My son gave me a lecture last night about all my chickens ...... thats bad when youir own son gives YOU a lecture and a son  that is generally silent.GUG (Well hes 34 maybe thats even worse Better to be 6 and  you can say he doesnt know what hes talking about!)idunno.gif

Well a dark mass can be the chick developing and i think but not positive  that you cant see veins well later sometimesI never could ut my eggs are all  dark ones

If the dark mass is taking up 3/4 of the egg then hold it close and still with the candler and see if anything  moves Sometimes you see a little flicker   of movement where the clear part meets the dark mass .I would guess its a chicfrow.gifk Also is the mass sport of a u shape?often the chick forming will look like a U shape. in the egg

GOOD luck!

@ Roxannemc - yes the "mass" takes shape like a U to meet in the middle on one side of the egg. That's where the slither of light shines through! I will check later when I turn them to see if I can see some sort of movement! big_smile.png

A nice full incubator. I am up to 55 eggs. I collected 4 more this morning and figured if I was already putting some in then why not.
