One of my hens is picking on my dog.

I have two Buff Orphington hens and the smaller one is attacking my Italian Greyhound. I have trained him to leave the hens alone while he is in the backyard with them. She will charge at him and peck at his face. I'm worried that she might injure one of his eyes.

Should I get rid of her or is my dog just at the bottom of the pecking order?

Maybe they feel threatened. I really don't know. One of my chickens stalks, sneaks up behind and pecks my cat on his little head. He has no interest in them, just goes out to eat some grass about once or twice a month and the same chicken, Blondie - a LB gives him the same treatment every time he goes out. None of the other girls bother him and she is not even the dominant hen.

We have a small terrier-mix that one of the chickens harasses. It is afraid of all the chickens. They have taken the poor dog's food away from it in the past, so his concern is justified. I usually feed the dogs before letting the chickens out. The chickens will peck at my Australian Shepherd. He is not apparently too concerned, because he just walks away. They will sneak up behind him and peck his rear. Sometimes he obliges them by bumping them as Aussies will do. This looks like chicken bowling as the chicken rolls over across the grass.

This is odd behavior in that either dog could take out a chicken in a trice. I guess that chickens are just gutsy.

They all seem to get along.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to just keep watch when I'm out with them and try to reprimand her somehow when she acts aggressively towards him. I guess chickens can be trained also? :)
 
One of my Light Brahmas has emerged from a full molt looking beautiful but with some obvious anger issues - Dolly (not Blondie who stalks the cat). I have been keeping a small spray bottle of water outside where I sit and when I see her being aggressive I squirt her. Don't know if she has learned not to be aggressive but she sure backs off when she sees me pick up that bottle. It never hurts to try.
 
Yep, military family here at Eglin and Duke. I'll try a spray bottle and see how that goes. Thanks for the reply and the welcome. :)
