3 millie fluers 3 golden necks and 1
barnyard surprise.
That leaves 5 eggs. I have candled
them and they appear to be dead.

There is no movement in any of them.
At what point do you call it done?

Congrats on the 7 hatchlings! Give the remaining eggs until Day 23 at least. I had one late hatcher pip on Day 22 and hatched on Day 23.

7 fuzzy butts is still a great number

I just keep my eggs on the kitchen counter in cartons until I have about 30 to set. Usually take no more than two weeks to gather what I want, we eat and sell the rest.

I have saved some egg cartons already. I am getting a small incubator (Brinsea Advance Mini) as I can only have 10 chickens at the max where I live. It will hold 7 eggs. If all of those are successful I probably won't get anymore.

Yeah right.

I can't wait!!

When I receive shipped eggs, I allow them to rest/settle for 24 hours in a carton, small end down before place them in the bator.

If it's eggs from your own hens, do as mlmills79 suggests. Good luck and keep us posted!

I am getting my hatching eggs from a local lady either on the 22nd or 25th; I'm hoping to get my incubator this coming Wednesday the 20th so I can get it up and running and make adjustments if necessary; I read that you should let shipped eggs rest, so that's not something I need to be concerned with is it? Should I still let them "rest" for 24 hours before I put them in the Brinsea? I won't have more than 7 eggs to hatch....

Eggs for hatching should be stores around 65 degrees. The best place to store them is in an egg carton with the pointy end down. The basement is a good place for storage. If you have a vegetable crisper in your fridge, check your temp in that. If it is around 60-65 you can use it.
Shipped eggs need to be *conditioned* for 12-24 hours. Air cells get dislodged during transit. The 12- 24 hours before incubation is to get them to inside temps, and to settle the air cells. I look at my air cells and when they are ready i set them.
I have another shipment myself in the mail. They should be here tomorrow. I will set on Sunday. I am trying another batch of Silkies.I usually have 90% hatch on my eggs. On shipped eggs it is around 60%. I am working on getting my numbers up by trying different things. Like this last time I tried a heat pack and not a heat pack. It was not really a fair experiment since they were LF and Bantams. To many other variables.

YAY!! How many more are pipped and hatched?

Melinda - how are your babies doing? Any others hatch?

Whose setting eggs today or this weekend? mlmills79 and Gloria Jean are getting ready to....the fun begins again!

My babies are a week old already and growing fast! I will post new pics!

Hey there Justine! I have three chicks, one RIR and two Black Stars. 2 have curly toe :(, so I have splinted their feet per other BYCers and have also started both them and flock on a vitamin supplement. Apparently curly toe can be genetic or a B2 deficiency. I feed my flock a layer crumble and give them BOsS as well as some other treats here and there so I really don't understand why they would have any deficiencies. Maybe these soy based diets aren't good for them? Anyway I've taken some pix but can't upload from my IPad. Will post some when on notebook.

Congrats on your hatch - So nice to have a variety of 'ill chicks! Is it possible that you're not seeing any movement because the chicks don't have much room in the shells anymore? Have you reached day 25 yet (seems to be the rule of thumb for calling it done)?
