Ok, I know this is long but you owe it to yourself to watch this. Once it is approved it won't be long before Chickens fall into this as well...AND even now you could be using this feed for your Chickens! Can you imagine having to pay for every chick you hatch on your own???

How can a company patent a gene sequence that already exists in nature, that the company did not create?

Worse... how can they get around the first sale doctraine with their contracts? Especially with those who never signed a contract with them??

What a great American Co. No wonder so many countries hate the US in general...

I am concerned that we could be purchasing this genetically engineered feed and giving it to our animals already without knowing it.

Does anyone know how to identify this engineered feed?

I'm no expert...but from what I understand...right now the most popular GMO's are Soy, Corn, Canola, and Potatoes. (in that order)
So...anything made with those items is GM'd already.
Vegetable Oil is actually ONLY made from Soy so anything with Veg. Oil....Corn Syrup, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Corn Meal, ect...would obviously come from Corn...and you get the picture.

The scary thing is...it's in our food too...because other than Corn..there isn't a different type for Human vs. Animal consumption. (although even Human consumption Corn is GMO)

I think the only way to be certain is it has to say "certified organic". Problem with that is that Organic can cost a small fortune! (which is how they get you to use the other stuff)

I'm at a loss. At this point we try to do as much organic as possible, but my big concern is .... do I own my chickens or will Monsanto? AND if they can patent a pig..where does it stop? Domesticated Animals...Children????

Not to sound paranoid...but geesh...they already want to tag all livestock!

I remember an article from a few years ago... I kinda remember when all the controversy started about the genetically engineered crops started. They had quoted the that the G.E. crops would not cross pollinate with other crops.... And they were proven wrong at some point, that yes the crops Did cross pollinate.

So how can this company sue farmers over crops showing signs of "Their" Genetic tinkering when the farmers never used their product in the first place?

I was also wondering how this company was able to trespass and test the various farmers' crops around the country in order to sue??

Too many questions brought up about that company's practices. I'd love to know who to contact so I can protest their patent application for this. I think every one should protest this company as much as they can....

unfortunately I have no clue where to begin either. They probably keep that information secret just for that reason.

As for how they "catch" other farmers using their patented stuff is....in crops you apparently can tell the difference from a helicopter because the GE crops look different...and in the case of the pigs...the gene code they want to patent naturally occurs in almost all pigs...so they just have to pick a pig farmer and chances are good they'd be right.

All they need for a warrant to gain access to property is to have "probable cause/suspicion" and then they would get a warrant.

It's just nuts! Like I said...I wish I knew where to go too....I really thought this thread would get a little more "read" time and hopefully get some folks curious and maybe one of them would know what would be a good next step...but I guess not

This was brought up last winter during one of our veterinary assistant classes. It totally sucks bubbles. Lots of bubbles. What in the world did people feed their birds in the old days as in the covered wagon days? Boycott...if we could feed otherwise...

I know around here the farmers that plant corn and whatnot have signs on their fields with the crop seed number... That's how we found out about the fact that yes they crops did "pollute" other crops...... Haven't seen alot of the number markers in the last two years.... Hmmm.....

I have a bit of room and was already thinking about documenting my birds anyway. As well as thinking about growing as much as I could to suppliment the feed. I'll think I'll be reading seed labels to find out who packaged the seed and see where it came from....

I went to an Agricultural High School back in the 80s and I remember one of the "production animal" teachers talking about this happening. Even as a teen I thought it was scary as all heck. I also find it interesting that the school no longer has a dairy herd, and we had a LARGE herd of dairy cows. And the herd of beef cattle and pigs had been cut in half. They also no longer had the poultry operation. This was in 2000.

I thought it was odd, that a school that was supposed to be teaching farming and agriculture. No longer had the herds/flocks or the processing equipment to actually do that.
In fact on my last drive by there I also didnt see the crops that we had in the fields in the 80s. Maybe it has something to do with all this? Maybe the school took some kind of stand? Or maybe they were told they couldnt grow and produce the way they had been for years. I just cant imagine teaching all that without having the animals and crops to learn it.

Also. With this stuff being out there in our food already. For what sounds to be at least a decade now(?) What else is messed up due to this stuff?
Maybe it isnt all laziness and poor eating habits that is making the US have such high obesity rates. Maybe the crap in the food is doing something to our bodies. And what about the kids? The growing rate of Austism and all the allergies. Maybe all the crap in the food is leading to this as well. Maybe it really is not the vaccines. Maybe it is what we are putting into our own bodies and then feeding the kids. Maybe the vaccine is just a trigger that sets off all the crap that has been changed in the bodies and brains of our kids.

Could that be why some kids are effected and others arent? I mean I couldnt keep ANYTHING down when I was pregnant with my daughter. Not even water. I ate very little. Only gained 15lbs and 7 of that was her! And after I had her I lived on water and salad. And she is not a meat eater(so far) never has been. Maybe that is why she is ok??

Gods this is scary. And NAIS plays right into this.

Heck are the tomatoes I am getting from my plant already affected by this? Are my veggie plants from seeds hat are GE? ACK!!!!!

This is really scary It really makes you wonder... if this is possible, where will it end?
