Let's play "Guess the gender AND breed!" :)

1.)Black Australorp female (if bottoms of feet are white or pink)
2.)Black Australorp possible male (same conditions as above)
3.)EE cross female (less EE features than your average EE)
4.) Cream Legbar female
5.) Cuckoo Marans male (sorry you lost him, they are beautiful when they're mature)

6.) Bit of a brain teaser. Are the bottoms of it's feet black, or pink? If Black, I think you have a Blue Jersey Giant male. If pink, I think you have a Blue Australorp. Neither are very common.

Awesome! Thank you so much for the input! It is so exciting to watch them grow and change. I remember thinking I'd love an Australorp! Can EEs develop without a comb? It's not that she has a small comb. She literally has nothing where her comb should be. I will look at the bottoms of #6s feet when I get home. It's funny how he has been a mystery from the start. Must definitely be a mix! I will post what color his feet are after I look. Thank you thank you thank you again!

EEs have what is called a Pea Comb. Before a hen with this type of comb fully matures, it often just sits flatly on her face. It will eventually raise a little, but will never be very large.

So, we got our first egg from our mystery babies today! Yay yay yay!!!!! I'm a pretty proud chicken mama. She's only 19 weeks. Not too bad at all huh? My husband was outside and heard the "egg song," so he got to see right after she did it and we know which one it was from. It was from the second one. The thinner black one with the teal shimmers. I'm still puzzled as to what they are. I figured those two were possibly Marans or Australorp mixes, so I was kind of expecting a darker more brown egg. But the egg we got was kind of grayish light brown. It's really cute and interesting. I like it a lot, just wondering anyone has an idea what could make an egg like this?

Any ideas? It will be interesting to see if both the black ones lay similar colored eggs.
